Up and Over We Go!

Easter Festival might just have found its Irish Grand National anthem

With the eyes of the horseracing world focused on Cheltenham this week, one Irish man has decided to sing up about his beloved Fairyhouse and the Irish Grand National. Mick Konstantin was asked by the Ratoath track team to pen a little tune about the biggest event in the Irish racing calendar.

The Kildare teacher who stormed the iTunes charts with his song before Conor McGregor's money-spinning showdown with Floyd Mayweather is back with his ode to the National called Up and Over We Go. Enjoy

Lyrics:
On Easter Monday of every year, people flock to Fairyhouse from far and near
With a sense of excitement, in hope of more, in hope of a great days racing in store
But there’s really one race they’re waiting to see, the finest steeple chase in this little country
So, let them off, give them the shout, let the runners and riders go battle it out

Here we are up and over they go, til the final furlong, who’s to know
The Irish Grand National in full flight, on Easter Monday there’s no better sight
And as the winner pulls away the roar you can hear, the hustle and the bustle and the atmosphere
As Fairyhouse becomes a magical place, for Ireland’s finest steeple chase

And the thousands that are there, well they get to live it, And others get to sit at home along with Tracey Pigott
But no matter where you are there’s a buzz on the day, whether you’ve backed a favourite or an outsider each way
But that’s the beauty anyone can win so who’s your money with, A big stable small stable or a syndicate
And you’ve got bookies on the ball and a few wiley punters , And a late tip blowing the odds asunder

Chorus

And it’s a race full of names steeped in history, like Draper Taafe Ferris Mullins Walsh and Carberry
And not to mention the horses that have won this race too, like Arkle, Desert Orchid, Brown lad to name a few
And it’s a test of courage, of character and strength, to go the full distance and win it by a length
And for the owner, trainer, jockey and the punters that knew, they’ll be sure to celebrate their win with a pint or two

Chorus
