Funeral arrangements for Max Mason (17)
Funeral arrangements have been made for Max Mason, the 17-year-old from Mornington, who died in a tragic road traffic accident while cycling on Tuesday evening.
Max, from Tower Road, Mornington, will be laid to rest on Sunday following funeral Mass in Star of the Sea Church, Mornington. His remains are reposing at his home from 7pm tomorrow (Friday) and all day Saturday. Funeral Mass takes place on Sunday at 2pm in Star of the Sea Church, Mornington, followed by burial in Reilig Mhuire, Piltown.
Max, a student of Colaiste na hInse was cycling along the Golf Links Road in Bettystown at around 5pm on Tuesday evening when he was in collision with a mini-bus and was fatally injured.
He is survived by his heartbroken mother Tracy, his grandparents Noel and Claire Woods and grandmother Nora Mason, his many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and large circle of friends to whom sympathy is extended.
The tragedy has shocked and saddened the local community. "Everybody is still reeling in shock at the loss of such a young life," said local councillor Sharon Tolan.
"We need to ensure there are plenty of supports for the family and the young people in the area and to keep an eye out for anybody who is struggling to come to terms with their grief, and let them know supports are there," she added.
Laytown Gardai are investigating the fatal collision and are appealing for witnesses. Gardai say there has been great co-operation already with people coming forward and have asked anyone who saw anything of note who has not yet contacted Gardai, to contact Ashbourne Garda Station on (01) 801 0600, The Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
