Blow for Trim Celtic as cup hopes are demolished
Any ambitions Trim Celtic had of a cup and league double evaporated in the spring sunshine at Tully Park earlier today when they lost 0-1 to Newfoundwell in an uncompromising Challenge Cup encounter.
Both sides are in contention for the NEFL Premier title but today it was all about cup ambitions as far as these teams were concerned with the Drogheda outfit just about doing enough to win.
The Trim Celtic cause wasn't helped by the dismissal of Keith Jones late in the second-half after he was shown a second yellow by referee Srdjan Bozic who kept a firm grip on proceedings.
Stephen Murphy grabbed the only goal of the game just before the interval. Trim Celtic had plenty of possession with Eoin O'Connor and Brian Faulkner seeing efforts rebound off bar and post respectively but they couldn't make the breakthrough they so badly needed.
