Reality check for Clancy's Drogheda at Cabinteely
Timmy Clancy's winning run with Drogheda Utd came to an unexpected end tonight at Stradbrook in Dublin when his side was edged out by the odd goal in five by Cabinteely.
Drogheda were aiming to make it four wins from five after a challenging few days saw that saw them draw 2-2 with Galway United last Friday before beating 10-man Finn Harps 2-1 on Monday night.
“There isn’t a lot between most of the sides in the First Division and we know that we’ll have to be at our best to get a good result,” stated Clanvy ahead of the game.
Next up for Drogheda is a home game against leaders UCD, who beat Cobh tonight, next Friday night.
Another Meath man, Gary Rogers, started for Dundalk tonight as they won in the Premier by 3-0 against Bohs, but the Bohermeen man was replaced inside the opening 10 minutes after he sustained an early injury.
Rogers was set to equal Alan O'Neill's club record of eight successive clean sheets, but a leg injury ended his involvement and he was replaced by Gabriel Sava.
Athboy's Jamie McGrath also played as Dundalk maintained their good form and are now second with a home game against Shamrock Rovers next weekend.
Ashbourne man Kevin Toner was in action for St Pat's against Derry City at the Brandywell where the Inchicore side were unlucky to lose 1-2.
