The SFC got off to a thrilling start in Ashbourne last night with Niall Whearty’s 69th minute free earning a surprise 4-9 to 3-12 draw for St Patrick's against hotly fancied Ratoath.
There was an equally exciting conclusion to Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s opening round clash with Seneschalstown at Stamullen with the Oisin McConville coached Yellow Furze outfit almost causing a shock before losing out by 1-11 to 1-12.
The teams were tied 1-5 to 0-8 at the break, but Andy Tormey marked his return from a cruciate knee injury with a second half goal to earn the narrow win for the 2016 finalists.
In the second game at Stamullen St Colmcille's secured their first SFC win in 25 years with a 1-17 to 0-12 victory over Rathkenny.
The 2016 IFC champions and All Ireland Club finalists failed to win a game in last year’s campaign but Cathal Hilliard’s second half goal ensured a comfortable evening for the seasiders.
Skryne ensured they took the bragging rights from their first round clash with Curraha following their 1-14 to 0-10 win in Pairc Tailteann. (See brief match report on website).
In the opening game at Headquarters Bective opened their IFC campaign by coming from six points down to beat Oldcastle by 1-10 go 1-7.
The nights other IFC game saw Syddan overcome Drumbaragh by 2-10 to 2-5,
In the JFC Carnaross beat Clonard by 1-13 to 0-12.
