Gaeil Colmcille make bright start to SFC campaign
Gaeil Colmcille turned on the style to record a 2-14 to 0-12 victory over Summerhill in the SFC at Trim today.
Apart from a very brief spell Gaeil Colmcille led all the way producing some fast-paced football a wasteful Summerhill could not match.
The north Meath side took a huge step towards victory just before the break when a Barry Smith punt forward from distance ended up going over the head of Summerhill goalkeeper Tony McDonnell.
That goal helped Gaeil Colmcille go in at the break with a 1-8 to 0-2 lead and in the second-half they added a second goal this time fired home by Conor Ferguson.
Summerhill came more into the game after the break however they were unable to find the goal they so badly needed.
Ferguson with 1-2 and Brian Hanlon with five points were the winners' topscorers while Conor Lyons held that distinction for Summerhill with four points from frees.
Conor Freyne impressed for the 'Hill with three points but they lacked a punch up-front particularly in a lacklustre opening half display.
