Second-half goals secure u-17 FL Div 1 crown for Seneschalstown
After a dour first-half Seneschalstown turned on the style to claim the MFL (u-17) Div 1 title with a rousing 2-10 to 0-6 victory over St Colmcille's at Trim last night.
The 10-point margin of defeat is harsh on St Colmcille's as they were still very much in contention until Padraig Finnegan struck a wonder goal for Seneschalstown with 10 minutes remaining to make it 2-7 to 0-6.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of St Colmcille's and they failed to score again, finishing the match with 14 players following a late red card for dissent.
The opening period had more wides than scores as Seneschaltown led by 0-5 to 0-4 at the break despite kicking six efforts off target.
After the break the winners got off to a dream start with Joey Moore converting a 33rd minute penalty stretch his side's lead to 1-6 to 0-4 and they never looked back with Finnegan's strike putting the issue beyond doubt.
Scorers: Seneschalstown – Joseph Moore 1-3 1-0 penalty, two frees; Padraig Finnegan 1-0; Cillian Lawlor, James O’Hare, Kit Waddington Ross Mullen (free), Jeaic Timmons, Woodley Nicholson, Sean Commons (free) 0-1 each; St Colmcille's- David Bell 0-5 two frees; Ben Wilde 0-1.
