Summerhill welcome for Gordon Elliott

Gordon Elliott enjoyed a real Summerhill welcome home this afternoon when he brought his Aintree Grand National winner Tiger Roll to the village.

The customary post-Aintree parade of the winner saw the main street restricted to traffic but no one was complaining as the local community came out in large numbers to acknowledge the magnificent achievement of one of their own.

Yesterday at Aintree, in the world's most famous race, Gordon Elliott trained the winner (Tiger Roll) and third-placed Bless The Wings as he won the big race for the second time in ajust a little over a decade having won it in 2007 with Silver Birch.

"I'm just going to enjoy the day," Elliott told the Meath Chronicle as he arrived at the local community centre about 20 minutes before the real star arrived - Tiger Roll.

Also paraded to the delight of the local community was Elliott's Irish Grand National winner General Principle.

The trainer, who is currently challenging champion trainer Willie Mullins for the NH title, posed for photographs with young and old and was in no rush to leave at any stage.
