Classical guitarist O'Toole in Solstice on Wednesday
Irish Classical guitarist Redmond O’Toole will tour in Ireland from 10 April to 6 May to Clifden, Listowel, Castlebar, Mullingar, Navan, Portlaoise, Dublin and Greystones. His programme exploits the full range of his unusual 8-string guitar and “cello” style technique. The concert begins with transcriptions of J.S. Bach and Haydn before visiting Mexico and Spain for the music of Rodrigo and Ponce and ending with Carlo Domeniconi’s masterwork “Koyunbaba”.
Redmond O’Toole has been hailed as one of the most interesting players of his generation, renowned for his atmospheric performances and dazzling virtuosity. He was the first to adopt Paul Galbraith’s ‘Brahms guitar’. This groundbreaking instrument and technique uses an 8-string guitar in the position of a cello. Redmond has given recitals throughout Europe and the US at prestigious concert halls and festivals as soloist as well as with ‘The Chieftains’ and ‘Dublin Guitar Quartet’. He recently collaborated with acclaimed artists including Derek Gripper (South Africa), Chloe Hanslip (UK) and ‘The International Guitar Quartet’ in Wexford Opera House and attracted two full houses in the Music for Galway season.
