VIDEO: When Gordon Elliott met his former primary school teacher
Gordon Elliott enjoyed a real Summerhill welcome home last Sunday when he brought his Aintree Grand National winner Tiger Roll to the village.
The customary post-Aintree parade of the winner saw the main street restricted to traffic but no one was complaining as the local community came out in large numbers to acknowledge the magnificent achievement of one of their own - including his former Dangan primary school teacher.
Carmel Gannon made sure she grabbed a quick word with her former pupil outside John Shaw's pub to commend Elliott on his Aintree acheivements and she reminded him how he visited the school just a little over a decade having won the famous race in 2007 with Silver Birch. A Silver Birch tree was planted at the school then to recognise the achievement. No tigers are planned to be released in Summerhill this time however.
"We're very proud, he's such a very nice lad, always was", beamed Carmel, who is now retired from teaching.
