Meath Chronicle SFC Team of the Week
Even though their bid for a first ever win in the SFC fell short Curraha have three representatives on the SFC Team of the Week after outstanding displays in their 1-11 to 0-14 draw with Navan O'Mahonys in Dunsany on Sunday evening.
Inspired by outstanding defending from Mark Jackson, who played corner-back despite wearing 11 on his back, the power and precision of David Toner from midfield and with James McEntee excelling throughout and kicking two brilliant '45's Curraha looked set to shock O'Mahonys when Gavin Coyle edged them in front late on.
However Henry Finnegan popped up with a late equaliser to ensure O'Mahonys remain unbeaten. Niall McKeigue continues to defy time with another outstanding display and deservedly earned a place on our team of the week. Robbie Keelaghan produced another outstanding outing for the Navan side, but such was the level of performances from forwards elsewhere in the SFC he narrowly missed out on a place in on the team of the week for the second round in succession.
While Curraha's draw with O'Mahonys was something of a shock, the performance of the weekend must go to Na Fianna who managed to put their opening round drubbing by O'Mahonys behind them to stun Gaeil Colmcille in Pairc Tailteann on Saturday.
Central to Na Fianna's outstanding display was Ethan Devine who notched four points from play as the Enfield/Baconstown men secured a 0-17 to 0-15 win. Not conceding a goal was crucial to Na Fianna's win and centre-back Anthony Neary played a key role in ensuring Shane Geraghty's goal remained intact.
Justin Carry-Lynch ensured Gaeil Colmcille didn't concede a goal either and his display earns him the number one spot on our team of the week.
Summerhill bounced back from their opening round humbling by Gaeil Colmcille to end Skryne's unbeaten start to 2018 and their performance earned places on the team of the week for Ross Ryan and David Larkin.
Ratoath's thumping of Moynalvey in Skryne on Friday night was a hugely effective collective team display with Darragh McGill marshaling the defence well, while Bryan McMahon ran riot in attack.
Dunboyne's surprise nine-point drubbing of Simonstown was also a classic case of a near-perfect team display, but with David Gallagher pulling the strings from midfield and Cathal Finn rampaging forward from wing-back the St Peter's men were hugely impressive.
St Colmcille's victory over Wolfe Tones was another surprise result from the SFC and once again James Conlon enhanced his already considerable reputation with a five-star display.
Leo Reilly was in similar form for Donaghmore/Ashbourne as they saw off Blackhall Gaels to complete an impressive team of the week.
