Six arrests for drink and drug driving over weekend
Meath's Road Policing Unit, formerly known as the Meath Traffic Corps, were out in force with checkpoints across the county at the weekend.
Over the course of the bank holiday weekend, six people were arrested for drink or drug driving offences. Three people were arrested for drink driving in the Trim, Ashbourne and Dunboyne areas and a fourth was arrested for bring drunk in charge in Moynalty.
Two drug driving offences were also detected. A learner driver tested positive for cannabis at a Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) in Kells. The driver was arrested and a blood sample was taken at Kells Garda Station. The driver is now facing court and a ban of up to four years depending on the results of analysis.
A second learner driver tested positive for cannabis and cocaine when stopped in the Dunboyne area.
Meanwhile, Meath Roads Policing Unit was conducting a checkpoint outside Kells over the weekend when they noted a motorist pulling over in the distance having been warned about the checkpoint by other motorists flashing their headlights.
Gardaí intercepted this car and found that the driver had no insurance and had three tyres in a very dangerous condition. The car was seized and the driver is now facing court charges for no insurance and driving a dangerously defective vehicle.
