VIDEO: The Navan Darkness Into Light Walk/Run was another spectacular success
Thousands of people took the Walk from Darkness Into Light across Meath this morning in memory of loved ones, friends, colleagues and neighbours lost to suicide.
The uplifting annual event which raises funds for Pieta House saw walks take place in Navan, Fairyhouse, Enfield and Moynalty with runners setting off at 4.15am followed by the walkers. Nationwide over 200,000 people were expected to take part in the 5k walks and runs. People of all ages got involed from tots in buggies to grandmothers and grandfathers.
Navan event organiser, Eugene Smith, praised all the participants, saying that much more than the 2,400 pre-registered participants had arrived at Navan RFC. He thanked all the volunteers who helped marshall the crowds as well as Meath Civil Defence and Meath River Rescue who were also on hand for the event.
Watch the video here and keep an eye out for an interview with Michael Hegarty (77) from Navan and why he was taking part this morning.
