Simon Cumbers / Paddy Hyland Navan Road Race focus
Peter Somba won the Simon Cumbers Memorial Cup with a scintillating run last night in the popular Navan AC-promoted 6k road race that finished at Claremont Stadium.
Sinead Lamble from Donor Harriers took the Paddy Hyland Memorial Cup in an event that saw some 1,100 serious and social runners head off from the starting line in a very well organised event.
Prior to the main event for the adult athletes there was a series of races on the track for children for the Alanna Russell Memorial - the late Alanna Russell was a regular participant with her father Keith in many of these races and also last year in the Dublin City Marathon.
She passed away last December aged eight and was remembered last night with special medals for all the children who participated.
The main race was won by Peter Somba of Dunboyne AC in a time of 19 minutes and 30 seconds ahead of Brian Leahy (Rathkenny AC) while Sinead Lambe of Donore Harriers took the women's race in 22:05 with Andrea McGuinness of Bohermeen AC in second place.
