REFERENDUM: Polling stations 'busy' across the county as decision day dawns

Voting has been reported as busy this morning at polling stations across Meath.Over 130,000 Meath voters are entitled to go to the polls today to vote on one of the most divisive referendums in a generation.
A total of 67,751 people in the Meath East constituency and 65,642 on Meath West are entitled to vote in the referendum to repeal or retain the Eighth Amendment.
Voting takes place in 232 polling stations across the county with a presiding officer and polling clerk in each station.
Voters should have received a polling card in the post before polling day, but if you are on the electoral register but didn't receive a polling card you are still entitled to vote. You do not need to have your polling card with you, but you should bring some valid form of personal identification such as a driving licence, a passport, public services card, an employee identity card with a photograph, a student identity card with a photograph, a travel document with your name and photograph, or a bank, savings or credit union book containing your address in the constituency.
Polling stations opened at 7am and remain open until 10pm on Friday.

Polling Station officers in Bohermeen said there were people waiting to vote at 7am.

When the polls close the ballot boxes will be brought under garda escort to the Meath West count centre in the GAA centre in Trim and the Meath East Count Centre in the Ashbourne GAA Centre and will be kept under garda protection until the boxes are opened at 9am on Saturday.
The returning officer for Meath is Brígín Concannon who will be based at the Trim Count Centre and her Deputy Returning Officer, Kevin Martin, will preside at the Ashbourne Centre.
The result of the local counts will be referred to the national returning officer, Barry Ryan, and the local results will not be announced until he declares the national result.
Voters are being asked to vote yes or no to the question "do you approve of the proposal to amend the Constitution contained in the
undermentioned Bill - the Thirty-sixth Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2018."  

The 36th amendment proposes to remove the eighth amendment which states "The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right. This subsection shall not limit freedom to travel between the State and another state. This subsection shall not limit freedom to obtain or make available, in the State, subject to such conditions as may be laid down by law, information relating to services lawfully available in another state.
The new amendment proposes to add a  new article, which states "provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancy."
