Meath to face Tyrone in All-Ireland SFC qualifiers
Meath will have home advantage for their All-Ireland SFC first round qualifier against Tyrone on the weekend of Saturday 9th/Sunday 10th June.
With Nick Fitzgerald's Meath hurlers set to face Laois in the Joe McDonagh Cup on Saturday 9th June, the draws offers an ideal opportunity to host a doubleheader at Pairc Tailteann, although that is an unlikely scenario.
Andy McEntee's side were in Monday morning's draw following the 0-14 to 0-16 loss to Longford in Pearse Park on Sunday and they were handed the toughest draw possible against dethroned Ulster champions Tyrone.
Tyrone suffered a shock loss to Monaghan in the Ulster SFC, but they will be keen to get back to winning ways under manager Mickey Harte.
Meatrh have already faced Tyrone twice in the qualifiers in the last five years, losing both games. In Mick O'Dowd's first year in charge in 2013 Tyrone proved too strong and secured a 0-17 to 2-9 win, while in 2015 Meath were unlucky to go down to a controversial penalty, 0-11 to 1-10, in Omagh.
Meath have enjoyed better luck against Tyrone in the All-Ireland SFC championship itself, most notably winning the All-Ireland SFc semi-final in 1996 and the quarter-final in 2007.
However, this is a new challenge for McEntee's men as Meath bid to improve on a record that has seen them win just one qualifier game in six years, last year's one-point victory over Sligo.
All round one SFC qualifiers must be played to a finish on the day. In the event of a draw after 70 minutes there will be two periods of 10 minutes of extra-time. If the teams are still tied after that then there will be two more periods of five minutes of extra-time played. If the game is still level at that stage then the winner will be decided by a free-kick shootout.
