Heatwave highlighting need for new NEDoC facilities
The current heatwave is highlighting the inadequacy of the out-of-hours doctor premises in Navan.
Doctors have protested that the current portacabin in Navan is not fit for purpose and operations manager, Arlene Fitzsimons said the current extremely hot weather has highlighted that.
“We have to use mobile air conditioning units,” she says.
The service will eventually move into the new Primary Care Centre which will be provided at Moatlands, but that is at least two years away.
Ms Fitzsimons said NEDOC is working with the HSE to try and secure a premises they can move into in the meantime.
Cllr Wayne Forde has welcomed the news that NEDOC is to eventually relocate to the New Primary Care Unit.
“A planning application will be lodged in the coming months for the development of the Primary Care Centre,” he said.
“In the meantime there is a requirement to relocate from the current portacabins to more suitable accommodation until such time as the Primary Care building is complete.
“It is vital that NEDOC stays in the Navan area as we have no paediatric services in the Meath area,” he says.
Councillor Forde meanwhile, has been advised that due to ill health and worsening medical conditions and problems, has requested some ‘leave of absence’ from attending statutory meetings and bodies for the foreseeable future.
However, Cllr Forde will be continuing his normal day to day work as a councilor.
At the recent monthly meeting of the council, members and staff wished him well.
