Carey goes top in UK F3 Cup
Ratoath driver Cian Carey surged clear at the top in the race for the prestigious F3 Cup at Oulton Park at the weekend after going into the weekend a close second behind English driver Stuart Wiltshire.
The Meath man, who is the Meath Chronicle / Meath Co Council BSafe ambassador for a road safety campaign this year, took the plaudits once again with another strong display as he surged 12 points clear in the race for the title.
"It has been an incredible weekend for myself and Chris Dittman Racing, I knew we would be strong on the back of the success we have had in the last few weeks," he commented.
"I was shocked to see how far ahead we were in qualifying and it shows the hard work that we are putting in because the car was incredible.
"I'm absoloutly thrilled to take my fourth win of the season and take over the championship lead," he added.
Carey won his first race in the F3 Cup last May and followed up on that success with a double at Silverstone in June that put him into contention to challenge at the top of the leaderboard.
At Oulton Park Carey took a hard-fought victory and a podium in his Chris Dittmann Racing car as he put on another slick performance with a double pole before taking the win in the first race and fastest lap on his way to second place in the final battle.
"It was another brilliant weekend, it was great to go to another circuit after Silverstone and show excellent pace throughout," stated team owner Chris Dittmann.
"Cian was really fast and he took a well-deserved win under pressure, before an excellent second place - with lap times a second faster than drivers he was battling with," he added.
The next F3 Cup action will take place at Snetterton in mid-August, Rockingham will follow in September with the final round at Silverstone in October.
Carey won the Sexton Trophy for the young driver of the year in 2016.
