Ireland AM hopes to raise €20,000 for Marie Keating Foundation this week

AM Fights Cancer Week’ launched on TV3’s Ireland AM this week and aims to raise €20,000 across the week in aid of The Marie Keating Foundation.  The target of €20,000 will support over 25 families directly affected by cancer who are struggling financially because of a cancer diagnosis.

The Marie Keating Foundation has become one of the leading Irish cancer charities reaching thousands of men & women throughout the country each year. it was set up by her family,. including Boyzone singer Ronan,  in memory of the former Dunshaughlin hairdresser who died of cancer 20 years ago, in February 1998.

Ronan and his wife, Storm, spoke to Ireland AM about the foundation which was set up in 1998 following his mother's death. Her daughter Linda Keating, director of fundraising at the Marie Keating Foundation said: “We are so thrilled that Ireland AM has chosen us as their charity partner for this ‘text to donate’ appeal. It is TV3’s 20th year and also 20 years since the foundation was set up, so it’s a great opportunity to spread our message of cancer prevention and early diagnosis and raise some vital funds. Mam died from the most curable form of breast cancer and the foundation was established because we were determined that no other family would have to go through what we did.”

Ireland AM’s Alan Hughes said: “I am delighted Ireland AM is broadcasting “AM FIGHTS CANCER “week. Having lost a brother and a sister to cancer, I know first-hand how devastating it is for families when someone close is diagnosed with cancer or who has passed away as a result of cancer. I hope we can create more awareness and raise much needed funds for The Marie Keating Foundation who do great work across the country”.

AM Fights Cancer Week will run all this week on Ireland AM from 7am -10.30am. Viewers can text ‘Marie’ to 50300 to donate €4 to the Marie Keating Foundation
