Planning permission boost for St Colmcille's
St Colmcille's are riding the crest of a football wave at the moment and received a significant boost with planning permission granted for the construction of dressing rooms and a meeting room at Seafield in Laytown.
News that the much-needed facility at Laytown was granted permission was welcomed by everyone in the east Meath community and club chairman Keith Loughman believes this is a massive step forward for the hugely progressive club.
“The new dressing room facilities will make the iconic venue more usable and accessible for the club,” said Loughman.
“GAA has been played at the Seafield for almost 70 years and until now the teams have had to use temporary accommodation such as lorry containers, nor did it have toilet facilities.
“I'm delighted that the project had come to fruition and that the club can now move to the next stage. Whilst recognized as a wonderful surface, the club had to have visiting teams change in Piltown and then transport them to Seafield which didn’t reflect well on the community as a whole.
“Whilst the facility will be a very modest and functional one incorporating two dressing rooms, toilets and a small meeting facility for local community groups usage, it is sure to greatly enhance the east Meath community.
“The process of obtaining planning had been a long one requiring the help and support of many people and groups and I sincerely thanked all of those who worked so tirelessly on this project.
“We have had great support from, the County Manager Jackie Maguire, Meath County Council Director of Finance Fiona Lawless, Meath County Council Chairman Tom Kelly and all the local councillors and politicians for the club's ambitious development strategy.
“We have also received great support from the neighbouring clubs of Laytown United, East Meath United, Cilles AC and Laytown Pitch and Putt who all backed this particular facility.
“Local businesses and the community have been working so hard over a number of years raising finance to improve the club and area around Laytown and Bettystown so this is a huge leap forward for us.
“Hopefully progress will now be swift and I assure everyone that the facility will be operated carefully and with diligence to ensure no adverse effect on neighbours and environment,” concluded the St Colmcille's chairman.
