Local athletes impress at National Juvenile Championships
Ratoath's Sophie Quinn and Cuishinstown's Zoe Mohan were the big winners as Meath athletes struck gold at the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore last weekend.
Quinn produced a sparking personal best time of 4.52:34m to win the u-14 1500m title with her club mate Laura Kelly also running a great race to finish fifth in a hugely competitive final.
Ratoath AC's Mohan claimed her third national crown in three weeks when she threw 44.11 metres to take gold in the u-19 Hammer
Mohan's Ratoath club mates Amy Callaghan, Emily McGreal and Amy Bellew all competed in the u-15 javelin and all threw very well getting through to the last eight and finishing in fourth, sixth and eighth positions respectively.
In the u-14 200m Ratoath's Laura Bolster ran brilliantly to finish second in her heat getting though to the final where she ran very well and was unfortunate to just miss out on the medals coming fourth.
There was medal joy for Trim AC's Olivia Gonsalves when she won bronze in the u-18 Javelin. She was also seventh in the 200m metres, while her club mates Caoimhe Rowe and Patrick Brophy also competed well finishing just outside the medals.
Rowe was fifth in the u-18 Hammer and sixth in the 400m hurdles final, while Brophy was eighth in the u-16 200m final.
Bohermeen AC's Darragh Doran came agonisingly close to a medal when he placed fourth in the u-16 Triple Jump. Doran also made the final of the u-16 discus.
Beth Miskelly and Ryan Sheridan also did well with Miskelly competing in the u-14 Javelin and Shot Putt, while Sheridan contested the u-19 3000m.
