First Galway Festival winner for Mulvany
Trainers Michael Mulvany and Ger Lyons were flying the Meath flag at the opening day of the Galway Festival seven-day marathon at Ballybrit this evening.
Owned by Larry Mulvany, the trainer's father, Premier League went clear in the final furlong to win well for Gary Carroll and gave the Mulvany family a first Galway Festival winner.
"He could run again later this week as the handicapper might not be too kind to him," suggested Michael Mulvany who has other runners this week in action also. On The Go Again might get a run the Galway Hurdle on Thursday.
Champion jockey Colin keane was on board Zander for Ger Lyons to win a seven-furlong juvenile maiden.
"He's a horse that is going to get better when he steps up in trip." stated Keane.
Zander didn't settle in the stalls at Down Royal on Friday evening and finished fourth after a promising run first time out at the Curragh in June.
Over the jumps there was a winner for Barry Geraghty with the Denis Hogan-trained Storm Rising - the trainer was on board another horse that he trained and finished third.
Bohermeen man Johnny Murtagh trained the winner of the last when Baba Boom won a handicap well.
