Fixture chaos for NEFL officials
Secertary Gerry Gorman has to deal with a major crisis only days after the new North East Football League 2018 transition season kick-off.
Some prominent teams sensationally withdrew this week and this has thrown the fixture schedule into chaos.
The teams that have withdrawn include Quay Celtic from the Premier, Kells/Blackwater and Navan Town from Div 2 and Rossin Rovers from Div 3.
"I am sure this is very frustrating on the part of the officials involved who have tried to keep things going within their respective clubs," Gorman told the Meath Chronicle.
"It also has a knock-on effect for the ability of the NEFL to reflect the balance within the grades for the rest of the teams that have already or are just ready to kick off.
"For example OMP and Parkvilla had applied for the Premier status while Kingscourt requested a regrading to Div 2 and Doncacarney requested an upgrade from Div 3.
"Most of the requests could have been accommodated had we been given more notice of intent on the part of the team withdrawals," he added.
