Na Fianna secure victory and stay in the hunt
Leading from start to finish Na Fianna pushed on to wrap up a 0-15 to 1-9 victory over a tenacious Curraha side in the SFC at Simonstown this evening.
The result means Na Fianna stay in contention for a play in the knock-out phase while Curraha are now destined for a relegation play-off.
The game was played in very pleasant conditions and Na Fianna built on a bright start that helped them go 0-4 to 0-1 in front after nine minutes. However instead of fading Curraha found some decent form to trail by only two, 1-5 to 0-10, at the break.
The Curraha goal was scored by David Coyle who finished well from close range on 25 minutes.
Shane Walsh capped a fine game for Na Fianna with six points over the hour with Ethan Devine (three), Michael Collins (two), Michael Downey (two), Daniel Queeny and Oran Smullen also lofting over the scores that ensured Na Fianna secured their second win of the campaign.
Coyle also added three points to his goal with Jack O'Connor also prominent for Curraha with four points while NIall Moriarty and Padraig O'Hanrahan were others to fire over. However last year's IFC winners wasted too many chances, particularly from frees, and paid the price.
