Meath mooves up to third on cattle rustling table
by Michael Keaveny
Figures released by the Department of Agriculture reveal that 22 cattle were stolen in Meath to date in 2018, all of which were taken in May. This is the third highest rate of cattle rustling in Ireland for 2018, behind Westmeath (25) and Laois (35).
The total amount of animals stolen nationwide in 2018 is 117, a massive increase on this time last year when only 35 cattle were stolen nationwide. The higher number of crimes linked to Leinster shows a shift away from the traditionally-held view that cattle rustling was predominantly a border county issue.
