Meath set for Cavan in Gerry Reilly Cup final this Sunday

Meath will play Cavan in the final of the Leinster Gerry Reilly u-16 FT at Millbrook on Sunday evening next (9th September) at 7pm.

Meath defeated Louth in the semi-final while Cavan got the better of Longford.

The launch of the 2018 Leinster Gerry Reilly U-16 Football Tournament took place last May in the Show Hall, Oldcastle.

This year for the first time ttournament is organised in conjunction with support from Leinster Council and this year will feature teams from 15 other counties along with Meath.

At the launch Meath Co Board chairman Peter O'Halloran congratulated the Oldcastle club and especially officials Eddie O'Reilly and Leo Halpin on their great work and efforts to keep the tournament going over the years.

Leo Halpin outlined the history of the tournament and details about the late Gerry Reilly who died tragically in December 1987 at 16 years of age and he had already proved to be a great footballer with huge potential. 

Meath Games Development Officer Jamie Queeney and Co Board official Brendan Cummins were also present and both acknowledged the tremendous benefit that the tournement provides now that the MFC is at u-17 grade.

Briody Bedding is the main sponsor of this year's competition and Oldcastle.
