Fitzgerald & Co go in search of interprovincial success

Navan RFC player Molly Fitzgerald played her part as Leinster defeated Ulster 22-7 in a Girls u-18 Interprovincial encounter at Portadown on Saturday and now she and her colleagues are looking to make it a hat-trick of wins.  

Turning out in her usual position along the wing Fitzgerald was among the Leinster tryscorers against Ulster with the victory following hard on the heels of a comprehensive win over Munster at Musgrave Park the previous week. 

Next weekend at Westmanstown the Leinster u-18s play Connacht in the final match of the Interprovincial series. A win for the Leinster would clinch the title. 

Last autumn Fitzgerald was also selected on the Leinster u-18 team for a game against Munster in what was an early recognition of her talents as a winger with plenty of pace an ability to finish off moves. 

Her talents also earned her a call-up to the Irish squad during the summer for an u-18 'Home Nations Sevens Tournament' in Edinburgh. 

There were three other players from the North East on the Leinster squad for Saturday's game. Fitzgerald was joined by sisters Caoimhe and Meadhbh O'Callaghan from Dundalk RFC while Ellie Meade from Ardee RFC will take her place on the bench.   

There was also plenty of Navan RFC interest in last Saturday's Pro 14 match between Benetton and the Cardiff Blues. The Blues are coached by former John Mulvihill while the game was refereed by Navan official Sean Gallagher. This was Gallagher's 10th Pro 14 match. Benetton won 27-25.

Sunday 16th September is the start of the Inclusive Tag Rugby season at Navan RFC. The action is from 10am until 11am and will be played on the first pitch beside the Balreask Old clubhouse. New players with special needs and intellectual disabilities, both boys and girls are very welcomed.
