Campaign to re-elect Michael D Higgins kicks of in Kells

A campaign to seek the re-election of President Michael D Higgins is to launch in Kells in the coming weeks. The “Kells for Michael D” campaign will be a non-party grass roots campaign to canvass and campaign for the re-election of Michael D Higgins in the forthcoming presidential election. 

“The campaign will bring together people from all parties and none to campaign for Michael D in Kells and the surrounding areas” says Labour Local Area Rep Aaron Byrne. “With 4 other candidates now confirmed to be facing President Higgins in the election of October 26th I feel the time is right now to begin the grass roots campaign to ensure that Michael D is re-elected.

“Although polls released this weekend predict a landslide victory for Michael D there is no place for complacency in the upcoming campaign. There are 4 strong challengers and as we saw in 2011 presidential campaigns can be volatile and unpredictable affairs”.

The meeting will take place at 12pm on Saturday the 29th of September in Kells Theatre, St. Vincent De Paul Hall Kells. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

“I hope that interested campaigners from all parties as well as elected representatives from all parties that have endorsed Michael D Higgins for re-election will attend the meeting” said Mr Byrne. “President Higgins has proven over the last 7 years that he has the ability and the gravitas to hold the office of President with the respect that it demands. That alone proves Mr. Higgins more qualified to continue in the role than any of the other candidates that have so far been nominated”.
