PREVIEW: Parkvilla v Drogheda Town
NEFL Reseve Cup
Friday 21st September 2018
This should be a close encounter at Claremont Stadium in Navan on Friday night as A Reserve side Parkvilla host Premier Reserve side Drogheda Town in the Reserve Cup with a place in the quarter final stage against either Albion Rovers or Duleek awaiting, writes Justin Burke.
Parkvilla began the season in flying form beating Hazel Lane 3-0 away, followed by a walk over at home from Enfield Celtic and then they enjoyed a huge 8-2 win away to Square United before last week's 3-5 loss away to Carrick Rovers might have dented confidence coming into this cup match.
Premier Reserve side Drogheda Town are unbeaten this season so far, winning 3-1 at home against Albion Rovers and they followed up with a point on the road away to Kentstown Rovers 2-2 before a 3-0 win at home to Boyne Harps in the cup has them in a good position for this game.
Both these sides come into the match boosted by the fact they have no injury worries and no one suspended for the game so it should be a very competitive match from the first whistle. Parkvilla have lost just the once so far, while Drogheda Town haven't tasted defeat yet.
Key players for Parkvilla will be their top scorers Dylan Regan and Blessed Omorojor as they have formed a great partnership together.
Parkvilla have a youthful team this season with under-17 players Dylan Tighe and Lee Williamson featuring so far. Dylan Kavanagh and James Kenny have also been promoted from the under-17s and could play a part, while experienced players like Scott Reilly, Cathal Kennedy and Brian Gibney will be vital to their game.
Drogheda Town have their main goal scoring threat Snaele Duma playing well, and have been dominant from the backline with Andy Hickey shoring up their defence. Ken Dunne has also added to their team as he plays in numerous positions for the club.
Drogheda Town manager Philip Connolly said that this cup match is a hard game to judge but expects a decent game against Parkvilla and thinks his side have a good chance of a win away in this competition.
Parkvilla Manager Jonathan Tighe said its a good test for his young side against a team from the Premier Reserve Division where they see themselves playing next season, they have have worked hard on defending this week after conceding silly goals last week and doesn't expect a high scoring cup game.
Prediction - Its always hard to call a cup game, maybe this match might go all the way to penalties !!!
