Gordon Elliott's Tiger Roll wins at The McCoys
The Gordon Elliott-trained Aintree Grand National-winning Tiger Roll was awarded a prestigious accolade at the second annual awards for The McCoys last night.
The McCoys are annual awards for owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff and horses running at all Jockey Club Racecourses (UK).
The qualifying period was between May 2017 and April 2018 inclusive and the awards are named after AP McCoy, the record-breaking 20-time Champion Jump Jockey who retired from race riding in April, 2015.
The panel of judges comprised Henrietta Knight, trainer of the three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Best Mate, Steve Jones, racing correspondent of The Sun, and Cheltenham Racecourse's Director of Racing and Clerk of the Course Simon Claisse plus AP McCoy.
The McCoys were presented last night before an audience of 450 in the Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse where Tiger Roll scooped the Judges' Choice Award, sponsored by WO Lewis
Tiger Roll won three different races at Cheltenham, the 2014 JCB Triumph Hurdle, the 2017 National Hunt Chase and the 2018 Glenfarclas Cross County Chase and added the biggest prize of all to his CV - the Randox Health Grand National with Davy Russell on board.
There was a huge wlecome home the day after Aintree in Summerhill last April (see video clip).
