Longwood end long drought

For the first time since 1942 Longwood can savour the success of winning the IFC after they defeated Ballinlough 0-11 to 0-7 at Pairc Tailteann today.

David Flynn's side were more composed as they got the better of a Ballinlough outfit who were never in front. 

Ryan Moore gave an excellent display for the winners knocking over seven points and also putting in a great deal of good work as his team took an early grip on the game. 

Playing with a strong breeze in the opening half Longwood led 0-5 to 0-3 at the break and also spurned the chance to score a goal from a penalty with Mickey Burke's spot-kick saved by Ballinlough netminder Derek Muldoon. 

While Johnny Reilly (two), Sean Geraghty and Michael Geraghty and  slotted over points for Ballinlough in that second-half the north Meath side were unable to catch their opponents with Moore, Aaron Ennis, Burke and Conan Burne all firing over for the winners. Ballinlough threatened to make the breakthrough for a goal but the Longwood defence held firm.  

Longwood held onto the ball well and worked their scores while Ballinlough conceded needless frees and paid the price.
