Minor title for Trim
Trim won the MHC final at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon with a merited victory against Killyon / Longwood.
Conor McKeon's second-half goal proved crucial in this encounter as it gave Trim the platform for victory.
Wind-assisted Trim stormed into a 0-5 to 0-0 first-quarter lead with some fluent play and good movement.
Conor McKeown sent over a brace while Mikey Cole (free), James Murray and Dylan Farrell also split the posts.
The Killyon / Longwood defence was under constant pressure and had sterling contributions from Adam McCooey, Shane Clarke and Barry Hannon during that spell.
Trim's wastefulness with five wides was also significant as Killyon / Longwood worked their way into the game with pointed
frees from Niall Smullen (two) and late in the half from play by Cathal McKeown.
Trim managed a point from Cole, but crucially were denied a goal when Hannon blocked Farrell shot that was bound for the
net in the 22nd minute.
Soon after Farrell was fortunate to escape censure from referee Gus Martyn for a wild swing in an attempt to get the sliotar that was way off target.
Killyon / Longwood resumed the second-half smartly with a Justin Coyne point, but Trim replied swiftly through Josh Harris
and Murray with vital points.
KIllyon / Longwood foound some momentum and a brace of Smullrn points (one free) had them right in contention.
However, Conor McKeown reacted quickly for his goal after the Killyon / Longwood defence fumbled an attempted clearance and that put Trim firmly in the ascendancy with 20 minutes remaining.
Killyon / Longwood made a valiant effort to get back into contention and got the deficit down to a goal by the 56th
minute (0-10 to 1-10), but were unable to muster anything extra.
Smullen sent over three frees and Cathal McKeown also split the posts during that mini-revival, but a brace of Cole points and one each by Murray (free) and Farrell sustained Trim's title bid.
