Male pedestrian killed after being struck by car

A man in his 40s has died after being struck by a car in Butlerstown, Castletown on the R162 Navan to Nobber road.

Gardai have confirmed one male fatality in a road traffic accident which occurred near R162 between Cassidy's Cross and Spiddal Cross at about 10.30pm last night. 

The collision happened near the Cross Guns pub. The driver of the car, believed to be in his 20s was uninjured.

The road remains closed this morning between Cassidy's Cross and Spiddal Cross, pending a technical examination. Diversions are in place.
