MFC title for Donaghmore / Ashbourne
Donaghmore / Ashbourne won the MFC final today at Pairc Tailteann with a 4-11 to 0-12 win against St Colmcille's.
David Bell had St Colmcille's on the scorebaord inside 35 seconds with a well-taken point, but Donaghmore / Ashbourne had the ball in the net at the other end soon after when Simon Wilson finished well.
There was a further boost for Donaghmore / Ashbourne before the end of a low-scoring first-quarter when an opportunist lob by Kevin Cully dipped under the St Colmcille's crossbar for a second goal.
And it got worse for St Colmcille's in the 18th minute when Darragh O'Sullivan hit a third goal for Donaghmore / Ashbourne that helped them to a 3-6 to 0-7 interval advantage.
The Donaghmore / Ashbourne points were added by a brace apiece from Simon Wilson and Dawson Devoy with one each from Darragh O'Sullivan and Andrew O'Dwyer.
St Colmcille's stayed in the game with two points each by David Bell and Ross MOlloy with Ben Wilde, Cathal BUtler and
Luke Brady.
Donaghmore / Ashbourne maintained a tight grip on the game in the second-half and when Matthew Crumlish finisehd to the net in the 41st minute it sealed the title.
To their credit St Colmcille's kept battling away and added points from Bell (two frees), Ruairi Hanlon, Luke Brady and
Sean O'Donoghue and they had a goal chance also but were denied by Ethan Tormey's fine save.
Tormey also got in on the scoring for Donaghmore / Ashbourne when he converted a free from a tight angle in the 52nd minute and the other points were added by Wilson, Devoy, O'Sullivan and Cillian Hegarty.
