Clancy to consider Shelbourne offer this week
The race for the final place in the Premier League for next season ended for Trim man Timmy Clancy and his Drogheda Utd team in Ballybofey on Friday night.
Drogheda were level (1-1) from the first leg, but a goal for Finn Harps in each half from on-loan Cork City man John Kavanagh and striker Nathan Boyle saw the Donegal men claim a 2-0 victory and a play-off with Limerick.
However, Clancy's journey may not be over just yet as he now considers an approach from Shelbourne, the team Drogheda defeated in the first series of
play-offs two weeks ago.
Shelbourne announced last week that manager Owen Heary's two-and-a-half-year stint at Tolka Park was over after it was decided not to renew his contract.
Apparently, Shelbourne have some potential fresh investment available and are now seeking a new manager.
With Trim man David O'Connor already on the backroom team at Tolka Park the Trim factor could be set to double at the Dublin club.
Shelbourne will by 2021 move into a ground-sharing arrangement with Bohemian FC at what by then will be the re-developed Dalymount Park, but Tolka will continue to host games until the end of 2020.
Shelbourne approached Drogheda Utd for permission to speak to Tim Clancy about a possible move although the Trim man has another season to run
on his initial agreement with Drogheda - his first venture into management after a lengthy playing career.
It is understood that the discussions will take place officially this week.
