North Meath stay top of Div 3
North Meath made it four wins from four for their best start to a Leinster League Div 3 season with a comprehensive 43-0 victory over local rivals Athboy in a match that was much tougher than the scoreline suggests.
A tight battle between the two packs meant that it was left to the North Meath backs to break Athboy’s stubborn resistance and to score the majority of the points.
Winger Adrian Sheridan opened the scoring, collecting a clearance kick from Athboy and touching down in the corner.
A pushover try from number eight Eric Syzmanski and a slick try from full-back Colm McDonagh made it 19-0 at half time.
The game was disjointed either side of half-time as things got scrappy at the breakdown, but four more tries in the second-half sealed the win for North Meath.
A wide pass from Joe Carry, who excelled at fly-half, put McDonagh through for his second before a solo run from Charles Brogan made it 31-0.
The try of the game came after Eanna Finn collected a chip though from Mikey McNamee and passed off to Andrew Dowds to score under the posts. Michael Brogan completed the scoring with a late try from close range.
It was another excellent performance from North Meath with new half-backs McNamee and Joe Carry particularly influential and Brogan and Dowds the pick of the forwards.
