Vincent's lose out in battle of the Saints
Despite serving up a strong second-half display St Vincent's lost out, 0-9 to 2-7, to Offaly side St Brigid's in the Leinster Club JFC at O'Connor Park, Tullamore today.
The Meath side, who lost to Dunboyne in the JFC final, made a very slow start to this game and while they mounted a concerted second-half comeback they were unable to catch their opponents.
The Saints (the Meath version) were already in trouble at the interval when they trailed 0-1 to 2-3 with Alan Scally and David Egan both firing to the net for the Offaly side.
In the second-half St Vincent's came much more to the fore and took more of their opportunities with Tommy Field and Nigel Hand contributing six points between them from frees. Niall Tallon, Robbie Lynch and Eoghan Corry also pointed for the team in maroon.
St Vincent's supporters were afterwards bemused by the lack of fire in their team in the first-half but a big tally of wides also did nothing for their cause.
It's not all over yet for St Vincent's as they are in the Tailteann Cup final and Ronan Kearns and his charges can already look back on a year when they went close to winning the Meath JFC crown only losing by a point to Dunboyne. Because only first teams can take part in the Leinster Club JFC St Vincent's got the call to represent their county. They worked hard in this contest but missed chances proved costly.
