McKeever achieves unique record
Navan RFC's Bryan McKeever achieved a memorable personal milestone when he lined against Old Crescent in the AIL Div 2A clash at Rosbrien, Limerick last Saturday.
McKeever, who has emerged as one of Navan's most consistent players over the years, lined out for Navan in their 20-17 victory over the Limerick side and in so doing achieved the truly unique feat of having played in all AIL divisions.
The former Navan club captain made his first appearance this season on Saturday following a spell out injured and by doing so he completed his record.
While he has spent most of his career with Navan, McKeever did have a spell with Lansdowne and turned out in the AIL Div 1A and 1B with the Dublin outfit. He returned to Navan and helped them win promotion from Div 2C and 2B and on Saturday he played his first game in 2A.
A powerful player who frequently makes surging runs from the back of the Navan scrum, McKeever usually lines out at number eight and has also contributed his share of tries over the seasons.
"Now that Navan are playing in AIL Div 2A , Bryan has now realised his dream of playing in all five divisions of the All Ireland League. I believe this is unique and is a record for a Navan RFC player. I don't know of any other player in Irish rugby who has the distinction of playing in all five divisions of the AIL," said Navan RFC official Gerry Williamson. "It's a great achievement for any player in AIL rugby."
Navan achieved four wins from four outings with the victory over Old Crescent. The win was carved out with the help of tries from Conor Ryan, Evan Dixon, Leigh Jackson with Collie O'Reilly adding a conversion and penalty.
