Musicians stage concert to support ill Jimmy Smyth
A star-studded cast will take to the stage at Dublin’s Noggin Inn next week in a major fundraiser in support of Navan music legend Jimmy Smyth, widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest guitarists.
Last month Jimmy, who has been ‘on the road’ and touring since he was fifteen years of age, was advised by medics, following a short illness, to take several months break from touring to rest up and recuperate.
Typically, Irish musicians have rallied in support of the Meath man in a line up which includes Paul Brady, Rob Strong, Picture House, the Donal Kirk Band, RTE’s Ronan Collins, Euro ‘Rock and Roll Kid’ Paul Harrington, guitarist Anto Drennan (Mike and the Mechanics, The Corrs) and former Van Morrison sax player Richie Buckley among others. More acts will be added.
The fundraising show takes place at renowned southside music venue the Sallynoggin Inn at 8pm on Wednesday 7th November. Tickets at €15 are available on the door and at Eventbrite and at selected music venues across the city. For those who cannot attend but who wish to contribute, a special GoFundMe ‘A Gig for Jimmy’ site has been set up.
Widely regarded as one of Ireland's greatest guitarists, the Grammy-nominated musician who was once asked by Phil Lynott to join Thin Lizzy, has worked with artists including Van Morrison, the Who’s Roger Dalrey, Curtis Stigers, Chaka Khan, Lisa Stansfield, Gilbert O'Sullivan and Mary Coughlan as well as the RTE Concert orchestra. Xmusic has donated a Gibson SG lead guitar which is signed by Jimmy and will be raffled on the night.
