Mother and daughter looking forward to start of new ladies league
Mother and daughter Michelle and Amy Timmons are looking forard to the start of the proposed new North East Women’s Football League (NEWFL) that will kick-off in March 2019.
They were in action last week at a pre-season ladies blitz at the MDL for their club Torro Utd as the countdown to the re-introduction of organised ladies soccer continues to gather momentum.
The last competitive adult league was played in 2014, but plans are now in place to cater for the ladies again and a number of blitz competitions have attracted sufficient interest to make a new structure viable.

“We want to promote a League, to encourage interest in current young female players from the age of 15 upwards to continue their involvement in the game,” stated Park Celtic Summerhill official Paddy Mulreid.
“We are aiming to get a women’s section up and running for March 2019 and we anticipate entries from Meath, Monaghan, Cavan and Louth,” he added.
Last week at the MDL some nine teams competed in a blitz competition with Louth side Albion Rovers defeating Slane in the final.
The other teams that participated included Torro Utd, Torro Utd B, Kingscourt, Park Celtic Summerhill, Skryne/Tara, Kentstown Rovers and Parkvilla.
The blitz was sponsored by UHY Farrelly Dawe White Accountants and Ronan Farrelly presented the winners and runner-up medals.
Another blitz is scheduled for Sunday 29th December with one also planned for January as plans are finalised for the big kick-off next March.
