Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to get name change

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is about to get a name change.  
The religious name bestowed on the hospital when it it was opened in 1957 by the Medical Missionaries of Mary looks set for a new secular title.

Fiona Brady, Hospital General Manager, has written to all staff members informing them of  proposals to change the name “as part of the Senior Management Strategic Plan for Quarter 1, 2019”.

According to a report in Drogheda life, the names being considered are University Hospital Drogheda, Drogheda Regional Hospital and Drogheda General Hospital.
“I feel that now is the time for real change for the hospital.  I believe the services we provide should be the very best, and that the integrity and transparency of how we do our business be beyond reproach and ultimately be proven in our results and outcomes," Ms Brady says in her letter. 
She asked staff members to respond with their choice of name by close of business this day week, 14th December.
 The hospital was opened  as 'Our Lady of Lourdes International Missionary Training Hospital' in 1957 and and was transferred to then North Eastern Health Board (now the HSE) by the Medical Missionaries of Mary in 1997.
