Gardaí have appealed directly to the woman who gave birth to a baby found dead on Balbriggan beach this morning to attend their doctor or an Accident and Emergency department as soon as possible and have assured her she will be treated with the utmost compassion and care.
Speaking at a media briefing at Balbriggan Garda station this afternoon, Sergeant Fiona Savidge and Eilidh MacNab, Tusla Area Manager North Dublin said they were concerned for her wellbeing and asking her to please contact her doctor or any hospital or Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 80220510 or TULSA 0818 776315.
The baby, believed to be newborn, was found by a member of the public at approximately 10am this morning. Gardai are not revealing the sex of the baby.
"I am reaching out to the mother of this baby, I know you need medical attention," said Sergeant Fiona Savidge. "I can assure you, you will be treated with the utmost of compassion and care and confidentiality. I know you are a daughter, possibly a sister, a cousin. You may have a husband, a boyfriend, you may just have confided in a friend, but to anybody out there who might be in touch with this mother, I'm appealing for you to get in touch with us."
