Trim win u-21 HC title

Trim won the U-21 HC for the first time in 32 years today when they negotiated Na Fianna by 4-7 to 1-13 in an exciting game at Athboy.

The prize for Trim was the Carrigy Cup and it was the third trophy for the club in 2018 after success in the MHC final and the JHC final. Trim also made it to the final of the SHC where they gave five-in-a-row champions Kiltale a good game.

Today in Athboy in very difficult windy and wet conditions both teams displayed a very high level of skill, but goals were a vital factor and Trim bagged four.

Peter Farrell claimed a brace of goals in the opening half for Trim and Mikey Cole also found the net to help his side to a 3-5 to 0-8 interval advantage.

Points from MIkey Cullen (three), Brian Dowling and Dylan Farrell sustained Trim's first-half challenge with Na Fianna relying on the accuracy of Mark Slevin who sent over five points (three frees, one '65') with those efforts augmented by Ethan Devine, Ronan Byrne and Sean Martin.

The second-half was a pulsating 30 minutes with Na Fianna rallying and Trim finding a response on each occasion.

Points from Luke Kelly and Mark Slevin had Na Fianna back in contention, but Trim found the net when substitute Andrew Dinan finished with his first touch.

Na Fianna countered again with Shane Walsh, Devine and Mark Slevin sending overand all Trim could muster was a Dowling pointed free.

Then Na Fianna found the net when Shane Walsh finished after Mark Slevin made the opening to make it a two-point game (4-6 to 1-13).

Trim got some breathing space when Dowling converted another free and Na Fianna couldn't muster another response.

Peter Farrell received the Carrigy Cup from Hurling chairman Anthony Monaghan and he dedicated the win to the late Zak McGowan who passed away four weeks ago.
