WATCH: Do They Know it's Christmas? Slane students rock 'Band Aid' classic
Sixth class students of St Patrick's National School in Slane had the experience of a lifetime recently, when they visited a recording studio to record a charity CD for Christmas.
They also made a video of their song and will be performing it at tonight's Slane NS concert in Slane Church.
The students chose to record Band Aid's 'Do they know it's Christmas' to raise money for St Vincent de Paul and have already raised over E1,500 for the charity and were selling the CDs at the school concerts which took place in Slane Church on Monday and Tuesday.
Their teacher, Kevin Fagan, is a musician and actor himself and is involved with St Mary's Musical Society.
He had decided to do something musical with the class for Christmas.
"At first I thought of recreating a video of a song, but when they chose Band Aid's 'Do they know it's Christmas,' I thought I should bring them to a studio and record it for charity.
"We have a food drive in the school for SVDP, so we chose them as our charity.
"I took them to Stuart Gray at Jealoustown Studios near Rathfeih, as I had done stuff with him before.
"We had a drummer, bassist and guitarist all from the class and they recorded their music and then the class did all the singing.
"It was great fun and they all loved the experience of being in an actual recording studio."
Local councilor, Wayne Harding paid tribute to the school, Mr Fagan and the youngsters on their wonderful performance and their fund raising efforts.
