Two men appear in court in connection with Navan bomb find

Two men with Dublin addresses appeared at Navan District Court today (Wednesday) charged in connection with the alleged possession of explosives at Brews Hill, Navan last Monday (17th).
Jason Melia (26), Shancastle Drive, Clondalkin and Declan Walsh (53), The Steeples, St Laurence Road, Chapelizod were charged with possession of an IED (improvised explosives device) at Brews Hill at 12.50am.

Detective Garda Conor McCluskey gave evidence of arrest. He said that the accused replied "no comment" when he was charged. Inspector Brian Dunne said there was an objection to bail in the case. Barrister James O'Brien represented Mr Melia. He was remanded in custody by Judge Miriam Walsh to appear at Cloverhill District Court on 21st December. Free legal aid was granted.
In the case of Mr Walsh, Inspector Dunne said there would be an objection to bail. Garda McCluskey said that the accused made no comment when he was charged with possession of explosives.

He was represented by solicitor James Orange. Judge Walsh granted bail in the sum of €1,000 with an independent surety of €2,000 to appear at Clovwerhill District Court on 21st December. Conditions attached to bail included that he provide a telephone number to Gardai, that he surrrender his passport and not apply for a new passport, that he should not associate with the other accused, that he stay out of Co Meath, and that he sign on daily at Ballyfermot Garda Station.
