Hurling proposals for Meath club championships
Proposals for changes to the intermediate and junior hurling championships will be considered at the first Meath Co Board meeting on 2019 at Dunganny on Monday 7th January.
The proposals will, if adopted, bring those two grades into line with the format for the SHC.
The proposals are:
The intermediate hurling championship shall be organised on a combination of a league and knock-out.
Two divisions of six teams each shall be formed.
In 2019 Group A shall comprise of the following clubs - Dunderry, Gaeil Colmcille, Wolfe Tones, Clann na nGael, Donaghmore/Ashbourne, Drumree.
Group B shall comprise of the following clubs - Kilskyre/Moylagh, Rathmolyon, Kiltale, Kildalkey, Kilmessan, Trim.
After the league stage concludes, the top two teams in Group A shall qualify for the semi-finals.
The third and fourth placed teams shall play the top two teams in Group B in two quarter-finals.
The draw shall be as follows:
Quarter-finals - 1. A3 v B2; 2. A4 v B1; semi-finals - A1 v (winner of A4 v B1); A2 v (winner of A3 v B2)
The team that finishes sixth in Group A will be placed in Group B for the following year and will be replaced by the top team in Group B.
The bottom team in Group B shall be relegated to the Junior Hurling Championship.
JUNIOR
The Junior Hurling Championship shall be organised on a combination of a league and knock-out, one group of six teams.
The top team shall qualify for the final. The second and third team shall qualify for one semi-final.
The bottom team in the group shall be relegated to the Junior 2 Hurling Championship.
If a semi-final, relegation match or play-off game ends in a draw, then extra-time shall be played.
In 2019 the Junior Hurling Championship shall comprise of the following clubs - Navan O’Mahonys, Ratoath, Dunboyne, Killyon, Rathmolyon, Clann na nGael.
The Junior 2 Hurling Championship shall be organised on a combination of a league and knock-out. Pending yearly club affiliation numbers the Meath CCC shall decide on the format for the Junior 2 Hurling Championship.
