Spectacular fall denies Chris Jones success at Leopardstown day one
The opening day of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival saw some 13,218 patrons flock through the turnstiles at the Foxrock venue today.
Meath winners were scarce with a blank across the seven-race card although there was spectacular departure for the Chris Jones-owned Coeur Sublime crashing out at the last in the Knight Frank Juvenile Hurdle when looking like a winner.
The Tote returns came in at €373,176 while betting with the bookies was €586,826.
"We had a wonderful afternoon's racing and were delighted with the excellent attendance," commented Leopardstown Racecourse chief executive Pat Keogh.
"On the track, it was great to see the spread of winning trainers, jockeys and owners, with great thanks to today's sponsors, in particular Racing Post and Knight Frank for sponsoring our graded races.
"A very competitive card resulted in some wonderful results and we look forward to more of the same as the week goes on.
"Tomorrow’s card looks equally exciting and we look forward to welcoming people back tomorrow and to some thrilling racing on day two," he concluded.
Music producer Daithi closed out the opening day in the Christmas Marquee with patrons on the dance floor the entire time.
Tomorrow's card features Paddy Power Day, with the Grade 1 Paddy's Rewards Club "Sugar Paddy" Steeplechase featuring a top class field with after race entertainment provided by Leopardstown Christmas Festival Favourites, The Conor McKeon Band.
