Brú na Bóinne visitor centre to get €5m investment

Work on a €5million investment at Brú na Bóinne, which will include a start of the art exhibition at Knowth, is to start later this month.

The €5million investment in Meath’s biggest tourist attraction was announced today (Tuesday) by Minister Regina Doherty.
Work will include the refurbishment of the visitor centre and the installation an the art exhibition at Knowth, which will celebrate the megalithic art at the site.

The money, which will also fund improved interpretation and visitor facilities at the Newgrange National Monument, is being provided by a partnership between the OPW, Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
The works are expected be completed within the next six months.

Minister Regina Doherty welcomed the work: “The Brú na Bóinne centre is the biggest tourism attraction in Meath and one of Ireland’s greatest heritage assets.

“Last year, 300,000 people came to the county to visit the site and we want to build on that activity. The investment announced today will help us to complement one of the world’s oldest known structures with a very modern state of the art visitor experience. This is the most significant investment in the site in over 20 years and reflects this Government’s belief that Meath can benefit more from tourism – in terms of local jobs and revenue,” she said.
