Navan Road Club present cheque to ARC
Navan Road Club hosted a social evening at Teach na Teamhrach where the funds raised at the club's annual Christmas 24-hour Roller Cycle charity were presented to a representative from the ARC Cancer Support group.
Navan Road Club members presented a cheque to Mairead Mangan (ARC) who expressed her gratitude for the tremendous support from the club.
The event marked the club's 15th year of support for the ARC centre and during that time members have raised in excess of €200,000.
The annual 24-hour roller cycle took place in Navan and was hosted at Foley’s Arch, Watergate Street in the town during December.
Despite the bad weather conditions the reaction from the public was very positive and supportive.
The event was officially started by club members Paul Nolan and his daughter Katie.
The first man on the rollers on this occasion was senior cyclist Frank Mc Closkey who made a big effort and was a great example to all that followed.
Other members who tackled the rollercycle included Paul Gleeson, Conor Gleeson, Brian Leonard and Marie Smyth along with Paul and Katie Nolan who showed their expertise on the bike.
Also there on the day to give plenty of advice and encouragement were Larry Clarke, Noel Clarke and former club chairman Padraig Brown, who are all keen supporters of the ARC cycle events.
Mayor of Navan Cllr Jim Holloway also supported the efforts of the club.
“We are grateful to everyone who took part in the cycle, all who contributed and supported the popular event,” club official Larry Clarke told the Meath Chronicle.
The ARC centre cares for people with cancer, their families and friends regardless of where they live, and the valuable service is provided free.
ARC also offers a range of complimentary therapies on a one-to-one basis and also in group classes and workshops.
