Love is in the air! Show much you love Navan!

Do you love Navan? .. Now is the time to show it! A major initiative to harness Navan's potential at the centre of the Boyne Valley, and draw on its people, heritage, natural beauty and role as Meath's county town will be launched at the end of the month in St Mary's Community Centre in the town.
A community-based group, #LoveNavan, has come together in an effort to draw on the talent, skills and expertise of the town, and is hosting an open forum meeting in the community centre on Wednesday 27th February to gather ideas.

Everybody with an interest in the town, from individuals to community groups and sports organisations, creatives to educational establishments and youth groups, business and retail associations to local authority interests, are invited to the evening, which is designed to bring together ideas people may have about celebrating Navan and its people, and helping to create a vibrant atmosphere for people to visit, work, live and play in.
The group came together as a result of feedback from a piece by Meath Chronicle journalist John Donohoe in the newspaper last August, asking 'Navan: Does Anyone Care?'
The piece arose from the last meeting of Navan Municipal Area Council, where there were all-round criticisms about the filthy condition of the streets, and anti-social behaviour in the town. While the councillors let off steam about it, the column went further and asked who is doing anything about it, who cares? Who gives a damn?
It turns out plenty of you do. And responded.  Some 22,000 people had read the article on the Chronicle website. The Facebook reach was over 31,000 on the first posting, and over 15,000  when posted a second time, asking for solutions to many of the problems.

There were posts from people who lived in the town, people who had moved away from the town, now living in other towns in Ireland, and abroad, and from folk arrived more recently to Navan.
Out of this feedback grew a group which now wants to bring all this positive energy together into something positive for the town.
There are lots of very active and successful groups and organisations, as well as individuals in the town doing great things, and the hope is that all these could be brought together for the benefit of the town as a whole.

Navan has huge potential as the centre of the Boyne Valley area being promoted as part of Ireland's Ancient East, and is a great location at the centre of all Meath's great tourist attractions. As well as its own industrial heritage, it has also a great entertainment and music culture, and visual arts tradition. There is also an abundance of sporting organisations and grounds in the town, as well as a great amenity at Navan Racecourse.
And of course it has great scenic amenities as the meeting place of the Boyne and Blackwater rivers.
All are invited to the meeting in St Mary's Community Centre, Trimgate Street, on Wednesday 27th February, at 8pm.
